The philanthropy sector is not doing enough to address climate change. We aim to fix that.

The Climate Philanthropy Catalyst Coalition (CPCC)
The CPCC has been convened to help philanthropy leverage its full potential in addressing the critical challenge of climate change.  Our members – drawn from foundations, philanthropic advisory firms, and philanthropy networks – all share a common goal of catalyzing more, and more effective, climate philanthropy.

We will contribute to meeting this target by strengthening existing philanthropic players who are actively catalyzing climate philanthropy. The CPCC will also expand the field by providing data, insights and strategies designed to encourage potential funders to shift from to being “climate curious” to embracing climate action.

The CPCC mission is to radically increase the amount of climate philanthropy being provided by foundations, family offices, and individuals.  Our initial target is to triple the amount of U.S. climate philanthropy by 2028.

The Challenge

Climate Philanthropy is Underfunded.

Today, in the U.S. and globally, climate philanthropy represents less than 2% of total philanthropy – and it has never been more than 2%.  In the U.S., that equates to about $2 billion a year in climate giving. The CPCC believes that is not nearly enough, given the enormity of the climate crisis.

Existing Funding Often Misses the Mark.

It is not just the overall amount that is lacking. Far too little funding goes to historically disadvantaged communities, to proven but “unsexy” climate solutions, and to the geographies that are being impacted first and worst by extreme weather.

Inspiring Climate Philanthropy:

a focus on the HOW.

The CPCC aspires to support philanthropic advisors, foundations and other intermediaries as they inspire increased philanthropic support of climate action.  We are convening and connecting the nation’s leading practitioners to share insights on what works (and what doesn’t) in promoting more, and more effective, climate funding.  At heart, we are a peer network, focused on helping each other to unlock more funding for climate action.
